Who Am I?
I am a former secondary science educator. I began my calling as an educator in August 2015 in Dallas, TX. I hold a BS in Biology from Jackson State University; I am currently working towards my M.Ed in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas A&M Commerce. I am currently the CEO of The Educator’s Call, LLC and an Independent Educational Consultant and Empowerment Coach located in Atlanta, GA.
The secondary classroom was a necessary beginning for my journey in this beautiful calling; I have always had a desire to become an Educational Theorist. In order to truly understand what takes place in education and in the classrooms, one must experience it. I walked into this profession with an open heart and open mind; it did not take long to open my mind and heart to something so much greater. I can truly say each student I came in contact with became my “child”, and a relationship was created.
Unleashing our mind and opening it to knowledge is a journey, a challenge, excitement, and a reward. Education is the foundation of discovering how to reach our full potential and find our purpose. Learning is the beginning of the journey.
As an educator, it is my purpose and responsibility to provide each student with that foundation and guide them through that journey as far as I am able to lead them. Each student has a purpose and that purpose is usually discovered as they matriculate through the levels of learning.
Educating does not stop inside of the classroom, it is a constant journey and process. It takes a village to raise a child. This includes parents, educators, administrators, community leaders and more. I am a firm believer that building rapport and relationships with students and families shape our ability to reach and teach.
As an educator, I serve as a mentor, a role model, and an example that learning takes tenacity, mistakes, and sometimes failure to reach the desired reward. I am currently living on and in my purpose and passion; I am excited to continue being an impact in this amazing calling; however, I ran away from this calling for as long as I can remember.
Here’s my story:
In high school, I made up in my mind that I wanted to become a pharmacist.
As a child, I always had a passion for helping others, whether that was directly or indirectly; nevertheless, I began to look into the medical field, that is where careers had a significant income.
August of 2009, I began to pursue my B.S. in Biology (Pre-Pharmacy). Unfortunately, Organic Chemistry quickly changed my mind.
I remember sitting in my college lecture courses not really engaged; I was retaining the info because I had to. I use to figure out ways to teach myself, so that the lesson made sense to me, and encouraged me to learn. Enthused in my laboratory courses, because it was a hands on approach, I was able to learn. At this moment, I did not realize that I was brainstorming and figuring ways to increase engagement and making education overall better.
January-May 2013: My senior year of college, tragedy happened, and my life begin to shift. That year alone my GPA dropped; I had lost my focus, and upon graduation I had no clue what career to pursue. I begin to work a minimum wage job, while at the same time trying to figure out what was next; nevertheless, I was distracted.
My way of doing things were leading me down a path of self-destruction; I was running from my purpose..
June 2014. God gave me a choice to follow his will or my way. I chose his will and relocated from MS to TX. Since then I have been moving in my purpose and passion; it has been one of the most beautiful transitions and journeys that I have ever embarked on.
